Who I am
It’s early in the morning. It’s still dark outside and an unusual silence surrounds me. I arm myself with a marker and let myself go… Drawing is my key to the secret garden, my way down the rabbit hole, my looking glass. My unconscious is the undisputed project manager. The geometric shapes, the rithmes, the regular confusions, the patterns, the dots, the black and white colours and the abstract nature of my works frees my imagination and help me to centring and aligning my mind. My name is Valentina and it would be great if my works can speak about me without saying a word! And how Klimt says “Whoever wants to know something about me… ought to look carefully at my pictures.” Why zetangle? Because I do not like to draw portraits, natures and landscapes.
Circles, lines, triangles, squares and how they flow out, are the main shapes that I see throughout creation and that I propose in my own way, playing with alternation of opposite colours, which end up making harmonious chaos. I draw for myself and for the very act of drawing and concentrating, a relaxed concentration, what for oriental philosophies represents the sacred space… it doesn’t matter what comes out of it. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places. Watching, seeing, touching, feeling are all verbs I would like to be used for my drawings, which I try to create as multisensory as possible.
My art
I called the style of my drawings Zendood Patchwork Art.
Inspired by Zentangle, but not Zentangle, as they do not respect the characteristics to be defined as such, a little doodle and a little no and almost mandala … a patchwork of different patterns, intertwined, which dance with each other, a mixture of styles , characterized and particularized by the addition of the tactile experience and three-dimensionality, created with the use of studs, pendants, rhinestones, beads, stuccos and the most diverse glues possible.
In many of my paintings I use Kinpaku, literally “gold foil/foil”) to give and add a well-defined point of light, sometimes in the foreground at the center of the painting, other times a little further away, although well visible.
Zendood Patchwork Art is a slightly different method from art and painting, a meditative activity based on a creative process, which gives more vent to the right side of the brain, the more intuitive, creative and less rational one.
When I draw I perceive reality not according to the preconceived schemes of the rational mind, but I try to “see artistically”, I let the white spaces that arise from the black felt-tip pen speak and finally I decorate and give the figures that emerge glitter, porosity or different tactile experiences with addition of jewel and/or metal components.
